  Hi Everybody!

Okay, so you’ve probably been as inundated as we have with folks buzzing about back-to-work in the same vein as back-to-school. But the truth is that September does have certain energy about it as we all seem to pick up the pace.

Profit Hot 50One thing that has us off to the races yet again is our inclusion in the Profit Hot 50. That’s right, for the second year in a row, we’re thrilled to have been ranked 24th in the list of top Canadian emerging growth companies. You can read all about it right here! We couldn’t have done this without the support of our clients and friends, so thank you to everyone for another great Sequentia success.

We’re hoping to connect with everyone to see how their summers were and what they’re up to this fall. So give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to connecting with you.

Cheers,
Jen Evans

The Things We Learnt This Summer
The Sequences newsletter took a bit of a hiatus this summer but the team at Sequentia sure didn’t. Things were buzzing and as always the learning never stopped. So with a twist on the traditional “What I Did This Summer” essay from our grade school days, we thought we’d share with you a couple of “Things We Learnt this Summer”.

1. Recycle and reuse those press releases..and get found
We’re definitely seeing the importance of using press releases as a search engine optimization tool. Aside from posting the press release on your website, this summer we had great results posting client press releases on websites such as PR Web. Though they’re not the greatest for tons of media pickup, they really do the trick when it comes to search engine optimization.

2. Business blogging is big but better get it right
Okay, say that five times in a row. Business blogging is big but better get it right! Over the summer, we witnessed a flurry of activity in the business blogosphere with businesses launching or planning to launch blogs. But the major blogging no-no we’ve seen is people launching, then forgetting to actually update their blog. Companies need to think long and hard before they enter the blogosphere. But it’s not all doom and gloom. One of our favourite small business blogs is http://blog.cakelove.com, a great blog by bakery owner and chef, Warren Brown. We find blogs like Warren’s inspiring because they remind us that if you have a great product or service, you can definitely find something to say.

3. Don’t forget the URL
We were surprised that companies are still forgetting to put their URL on their offline materials including direct mail pieces, print advertising and other key marketing vehicles. And what’s worse is the folks who use crazy long URLs to promote a website. And it’s not just our pet peeve. Our good friend Ken Schafer over at OneDegree.ca has a great article highlighting a few corporate gaffes regarding URLs. Make sure you’re not one of them.

4. Community is Key
Do you have a community built around your service offering? Is your service or product being discussed in other communities? The one thing we’ve realized this summer is the power of community to build a brand. So don’t neglect yours. Make sure you’re doing all you can to acquire community members, retain your existing ones and build your community’s momentum. Don’t have a community built around your product or service? Make sure you are monitoring what’s happening in related communities. People may be talking…so take the time to listen.

Sacha DeGroot’s Bundle of Joy

Sacha DeGroot and her partner Ken Knudsen welcomed their new baby boy, Tristen Kenneth DeGroot Knudsen over the summer! Baby Tristen made his arrival on July 1st in time for the Canada Day festivities weighing a healthy 7 pounds 4 ounces. Mom, Dad and Baby are doing well and we look forward to having them into the office for a visit.

Welcome Aine and Maureen

We’re thrilled to welcome two new members to the Sequentia team. Aine Magennis joins us as a new PR Account Manager working with clients such as DataDepositBox and RedFlagDeals. With over six years of public relations experience, Aine has represented a diverse array of North American clients including Samsung Canada, Bank of Montreal, Right To Play, NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display, and AT&T Canada.

We’re also excited to welcome Maureen Miller to the Sequentia team in the role of Marketing Account Coordinator. Maureen comes to us from a combined background of teaching and media licensing with a position at a Montréal based software company, Softimage, and most recently at Indigo Books & Music Head Office where she assisted in the Annual Head of Store conference.

Timewasters
Have you seen the music video for the group OK Go’s song “Here it Goes Again”? We can’t even begin to describe how cool the concept and execution is. And for those of you who think this is some sort of editing magic, do a quick search for the performance of this song on the treadmills live at the VMAs.
